Hear ye, hear ye! Cinderella’s Closet 2022 is almost here, and we need your help to make it happen! Since 2008, Cinderella’s Closet has been making dreams come true in Lycoming County by providing gorgeous and affordable prom gowns for high school students in need and this March through May, we’re doing it again!

Founded by the Junior League of Williamsport and given new life and a permanent home by the YWCA, Cinderella’s Closet is a once in a lifetime experience where students who may not otherwise have been able to afford prom, are given the full royal treatment. In a process modeled after the television show Say Yes to the Dress, students and their parents book an hour-long appointment time where they are matched with a volunteer Fairy Godmother who will lead the student through the process of shopping, trying on, selecting, and purchasing their perfect gown. Appointments ensure that our guests receive our full attention and do not feel rushed while our Fairy Godmothers ensure that parents and students do not feel overwhelmed or stressed and can fully relax and enjoy the moment together. Gowns are priced at just $10-15 a piece which, in a world where the average cost of a prom gown is $100-600, is amazing! All proceeds from the event help fund the YWCA’s Wise Options and Liberty House shelters for individuals escaping abuse and/or experiencing homelessness.

So, what do we need to make this marvelous royal occasion happen? We are always in need of donations of modern, stylish prom gowns in all styles and sizes, but especially in sizes 16 and up. Since Cinderella’s Closet is only possible through donations, we often run short on certain, and often the most needed, sizes. It is incredibly heartbreaking for us and traumatizing for students to come to Cinderella’s Closet and not be able to find one gown that fits. Prom gown brands almost always run small and many of our donated gowns have been altered to fit smaller frames, so it is difficult to make sure every student that comes to us feels like the princess they are without the selection of gowns we need.

If you would like to donate to Cinderella’s Closet, please drop off any gowns, shoes, or accessories at The Boutique or at the YWCA’s front desk Monday through Friday 9AM-5PM or Saturday 10AM-2PM.

Ready for your Cinderella moment? We will begin taking appointments for Cinderella’s Closet on February 1st and the event will run every Wednesday and Saturday from March 2nd to May 7th, 2022.
