For three years Rita was free from her ex-husband’s violent outbursts thanks to a Protection from Abuse Order (PFA) which she obtained with the help of Wise Options. During that time she moved into her own apartment where she found peace from the abuse she experienced in her marriage.
After the PFA expired earlier this year, her abuser started contacting her online, calling and following her. The stalking was terrifying for her after she had been free from him for so long.
In a panic, Rita contacted Chad Hahn, Wise Options legal advocate, to figure out the best option to ensure her safety. Chad suggested that she either renew her PFA or relocate to get away from her abuser.
Instead of going through the court process again, she felt empowered to relocate to a new apartment outside Lycoming County where he would not find her. Chad worked with Rita to find the perfect place for her to feel safe in.
Wise Options has a relocation assistance program that aims to relocate survivors of domestic violence and other violent crimes for safety purposes. If a victim needs to move in order to feel secure, we are able to make that happen through grant money from the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
With the help of the YWCA Northcentral PA and donors like you, Rita can sleep soundly knowing that her abuser cannot hurt her any longer.
